Telehealth Online Therapy Frequently Asked Questions
Due to the COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic, telehealth coverage has been expanded by many insurance providers and state regulators, including Medicaid. Please contact our office to inquire about telehealth availability or to schedule an appointment.
Telehealth is providing therapy and counseling or other clinical services remotely, via online video chat or telephone.
Other than being online, it’s exactly the same. You will meet with our same therapists who provide in-person therapy. You will receive the exact same high-quality treatment that the Metis Center provides to all our patients.
Our clinicians can provide most counseling services and many assessments over telehealth.

Through our many years of providing telehealth therapy, we have found that the online relationship between our therapists and their patients is just as helpful and genuine as meeting in-person. We have found that in some cases, our patients find teletherapy more impactful than coming into an office. There is also substantial research that supports the effectiveness of telehealth.
Each person is different, and we encourage you to talk to one of our clinicians about teletherapy and how it might be a good fit for your needs. Some people have a preference for in-person therapy, while others find teletherapy even more helpful than coming into an office.
Most health insurance providers, including Medicaid, cover telehealth therapy. Call our office and we can help you determine your benefits coverage.
We know that consistency in clinical care and a strong connection with your therapist is vital for effective therapy. Just as with in-person therapy, you will work with the same clinician for all of your sessions.
Yes. We use a secure service (Zoom for telehealth) that uses secure encryption to ensure that your session is safe. None of your sessions are ever recorded or saved.
Telehealth therapy is completely HIPAA-compliant and confidential, to the same degree as in-person therapy.
You will need to have a private location for your therapy session so that you can be comfortable talking about sensitive issues without interruption.
It is important to have privacy to discuss sensitive topics with your therapist without interruption. If you cannot find a quiet and private location, you may want to consider asking your housemates, partner, or children to take a walk or run an errand for an hour or two to provide you privacy.
Ultimately, you can decide what you are comfortable with, and we’re happy to help you explore creative ideas to find the privacy you need.
Absolutely! We can also arrange for you to have a mix of telehealth and in-person sessions. Just call our office and we will be glad to help you out.
We are more than happy to accommodate you if you are sick, traveling, cannot make the drive into the office for some reason, or just don’t feel like coming in. You do NOT need to cancel your appointment just call our office or you can reschedule your appointment through our patient portal.
Telehealth works with most computers (even older ones), tablets, and smartphones.
You will need to have a video camera and microphone on your device. We recommend using a computer or tablet if you have one available, rather than a smartphone.
You will also need an Internet connection, which can include mobile Internet, and a private location for your therapy session.
You can use telehealth in your computer’s web browser, or download an app on your tablet or smartphone. We’ll just send you a link to click on to get started, and it will walk you through the rest. In most cases, you won’t need to install any new software.
